Cal Poly's basketball program began in 1907 at the polytechnic university in San Luis Obispo, California. The Mustangs compete in the Big West Conference and have had occasional conference success. The program is known for its academic rigor and beautiful Central Coast setting.
The Mustangs nickname reflects Cal Poly's agricultural roots and the wild mustang horses associated with California's Central Coast ranching heritage.
Winning the 2014 Big West Conference Tournament to earn the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance at the Division I level.
