The University of Nebraska Omaha competes in the Summit League and transitioned to Division I in 2012. The Mavericks are building their basketball program and have become increasingly competitive in the conference.

Defeating St. Thomas 85-75 on March 9, 2025 to win the program's first Summit League tournament championship, capping a Division I-era record 22-win season that sent Omaha to its first NCAA Division I Tournament as a 15-seed against St. John's.
Omaha dropped its football program in 2011 to fund the transition to Division I in other sports, one of the few schools to make such a strategic sacrifice.
The Omaha Mavericks compete in the Summit League and hold an all-time record of 194–245 (.442 winning percentage) across 14 recorded seasons dating back to 2012-13.
