Oregon State competes in the Pac-12 (now independent/transitioning) and has a basketball history that includes a 2021 Elite Eight run and decades of Pac-10/12 competition. The Beavers never captured a national title, but Ralph Miller's 1980-81 team spent nine weeks ranked No. 1 in the country, and the program's improbable run to the 2021 Elite Eight as a #12 seed ranks among the tournament's great Cinderella stories.
The Beavers mascot was adopted in 1910, honoring the industrious beaver that is the Oregon state animal and a symbol of the Pacific Northwest's natural heritage.
The 2021 NCAA Tournament run as a #12 seed, upsetting Tennessee, Oklahoma State, and Loyola Chicago to reach the Elite Eight in one of the tournament's best Cinderella stories.
Gary Payton starred at Oregon State in the late 1980s before being drafted second overall by the Seattle SuperSonics, becoming one of the greatest defensive guards in NBA history.
The Oregon State Beavers compete in the WCC and hold an all-time record of 1862–1463 (.560 winning percentage) across 120 recorded seasons dating back to 1901-02. The program has reached 3 Final Fours.
