Chattanooga's basketball program dates to 1904 and the Mocs compete in the Southern Conference. The program has won multiple SoCon championships and made numerous NCAA Tournament appearances. The Mocs have been one of the most successful mid-major programs in the South.
The 'Mocs' nickname is short for Moccasins, later changed to represent a mockingbird — the name has evolved over the decades while the shortened 'Mocs' persisted.
The 1997 NCAA Tournament first-round upset of third-seeded Georgia, a thrilling victory that put the Mocs on the national map.
Chattanooga's McKenzie Arena is known as the 'Roundhouse' for its distinctive circular design and has hosted first- and second-round games of the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.
The Chattanooga Mocs compete in the Southern and hold an all-time record of 921–603 (.604 winning percentage) across 50 recorded seasons dating back to 1976-77.
