Georgia's basketball program dates to the early 1900s, and the 'Bulldogs' nickname was adopted in 1920 due to the school's historical ties to Yale, whose mascot is also a Bulldog — Georgia's first president was a Yale graduate. The live English Bulldog mascot Uga has been provided by the Seiler family since 1956, when a law student brought his wedding-gift puppy to a football game. Anthony Edwards became the first Georgia basketball player selected first overall in the NBA Draft in 2020. Georgia is the only major college that buries its mascots inside the stadium.
The 'Bulldogs' nickname was adopted in 1920, partly due to ties to Yale (Georgia's first president, Abraham Baldwin, was a Yale grad); the live Uga mascot has been owned by the Seiler family since 1956
Reaching the 1983 Final Four, the deepest NCAA Tournament run in program history
Georgia is the only major college that buries its mascots inside the stadium — every Uga has a bronze epitaph at Sanford Stadium, and flowers are placed on their graves before each home game
The Georgia Bulldogs compete in the SEC and hold an all-time record of 1537–1425 (.519 winning percentage) across 119 recorded seasons dating back to 1905-06. The program has reached 1 Final Four.
