Houston Christian Huskies basketball — program history

Houston Christian's basketball program (formerly Houston Baptist) began in 1963 at the Christian university in Houston, Texas. The Huskies compete in the Southland Conference and have been building their program steadily. The university rebranded from Houston Baptist to Houston Christian in 2022.

The Huskies nickname was chosen to represent the strength, endurance, and loyalty associated with the Siberian Husky breed.

Houston Christian's campus is located in the Sharpstown area of Houston, within one of the most basketball-rich metropolitan areas in the country, competing for attention with the University of Houston and Rice.
