Idaho's basketball program dates to 1905 in Moscow, Idaho. The Vandals compete in the Big Sky Conference and were previously in the WAC and Big West. The program has made occasional NCAA Tournament appearances and produced Naismith Hall of Famer Gus Johnson, a five-time NBA All-Star.
The Vandals nickname was adopted in the 1920s, inspired by the ancient Germanic tribe known for their fierce, fearless warrior culture.
The 1982 NCAA Tournament appearance under coach Don Monson, when the Vandals won the Big Sky and competed in March Madness.
Moscow, Idaho sits on the Palouse — rolling wheat-covered hills — and is just eight miles from Washington State, creating one of the smallest and most remote college towns with a Division I basketball program.
The Idaho Vandals compete in the Big Sky and hold an all-time record of 1418–1646 (.463 winning percentage) across 121 recorded seasons dating back to 1905-06.
