Drexel's basketball program dates to 1894 at the university in Philadelphia. The Dragons compete in the CAA and have made several NCAA Tournament appearances. The program has been a competitive force in Philadelphia's rich basketball landscape.
The Dragons nickname was adopted in 1928, announced in Drexel's student newspaper The Triangle, replacing 'The Engineers' so that athletes from all of the school's colleges — not just engineering — would be represented under a single fierce identity.
Winning the 2021 CAA Tournament to earn the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 25 years, a breakthrough moment for the Philadelphia school.
Drexel's Daskalakis Athletic Center is located in the University City neighborhood of Philadelphia, just blocks from Penn's Palestra — one of basketball's most historic venues.
