Hofstra's basketball program began in 1935 at the university in Hempstead, on Long Island, New York. The Pride compete in the CAA and have won multiple conference championships. The program has made several NCAA Tournament appearances and produced NBA players.
The 'Pride' nickname was adopted in 2004, replacing 'Flying Dutchmen,' with the pride of lions imagery reflecting strength and the collective spirit of the university community.
Jay Wright's 2000-01 squad winning the America East Tournament title on its home floor to earn a second straight NCAA Tournament bid, one of the program's most exciting postseason runs.
Hofstra's campus in Hempstead is located just minutes from New York City, giving the program access to one of the richest basketball recruiting grounds in the country.
The Hofstra Pride compete in the CAA and hold an all-time record of 945–844 (.528 winning percentage) across 62 recorded seasons dating back to 1942-43.
