Stony Brook's basketball program dates to 1960, and the Long Island school moved to Division I in 1999. Competing in the America East Conference and now the Colonial Athletic Association, the Seawolves have built a growing D-I program.
The Seawolves name was adopted in 1994, replacing "Patriots," referencing the seafaring wolves of maritime legend and the school's Long Island coastal location.
Winning the 2016 America East Tournament to earn the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.
Stony Brook is part of the SUNY system and is known as a top research university, and its basketball arena sits on one of the largest college campuses on Long Island.
The Stony Brook Seawolves compete in the CAA and hold an all-time record of 414–422 (.495 winning percentage) across 27 recorded seasons dating back to 1999-00.
