Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, transitioned to Division I in 2023-24 after a successful Division II history. The Dolphins compete in the Northeast Conference and are one of the newest additions to the Division I basketball landscape.
The Dolphins nickname traces to the student newspaper The Dolphin, whose first issue in October 1947 drew on the dolphin's early-Christian symbolism. Le Moyne College is named after Simon Le Moyne, a French Jesuit missionary who worked in the region in the 1600s.
The transition to Division I in 2023, marking a major milestone for the small Jesuit college as it entered the highest level of college basketball competition.
