Utah Tech's basketball program dates to 1941, and the St. George school is one of the newest Division I programs, having transitioned in 2020. Formerly known as Dixie State, the Trailblazers compete in the WAC.
The Trailblazers name was unveiled on April 11, 2016, replacing 'Red Storm' while the school was still Dixie State; the university later rebranded from Dixie State to Utah Tech, effective July 2022. The name symbolizes pioneering innovation and the spirit of the American West.

Utah Tech is located in St. George, one of the fastest-growing cities in America, near Zion National Park — the school changed its name from Dixie State to Utah Tech in 2022 to better reflect its identity.
