Arkansas-Pine Bluff's basketball program dates to around 1930 at the HBCU in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The Golden Lions compete in the SWAC and have produced several professional players. The program has made occasional postseason appearances.
The Golden Lions nickname was chosen to represent strength and pride, with the golden color reflecting the university's school colors.
Earning a bid to the 2009 NCAA Tournament as the SWAC's automatic qualifier, marking one of the program's biggest national moments.
UAPB's campus sits along the Arkansas River, and the university is known as one of the top HBCU marching band schools in the country, with the band often stealing the show at basketball games.
The Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions compete in the SWAC and hold an all-time record of 252–596 (.297 winning percentage) across 28 recorded seasons dating back to 1997-98.
