Ole Miss competes in the SEC and has had periods of basketball success despite being traditionally overshadowed by football. The Rebels have produced NBA players and made NCAA Tournament appearances, with the program experiencing a resurgence in recent years.
The "Rebels" nickname was adopted in 1936 through a student contest. The university retired the Colonel Reb mascot in 2003, and after a 2017 student vote officially adopted the Landshark, with Tony the Landshark debuting in 2018.
The 2001 Sweet 16 run under coach Rod Barnes, when SEC West champion Ole Miss beat Iona and Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament before falling to eventual national runner-up Arizona.
The Pavilion at Ole Miss, which opened in 2016, replaced the beloved Tad Smith Coliseum and gave the Rebels one of the premier basketball facilities in the SEC.
The Ole Miss Rebels compete in the SEC and hold an all-time record of 1428–1428 (.500 winning percentage) across 116 recorded seasons dating back to 1908-09.
