Southeastern Louisiana's basketball program dates to 1946, and the Hammond school competes in the Southland Conference. The Lions have been a consistent Southland competitor and play in the heart of Louisiana.
The Lions name was adopted as a symbol of strength and courage, a traditional choice for the school's athletics program.
Winning the 2005 Southland Conference Tournament to earn the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
Southeastern Louisiana's most famous basketball alum is Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts, who scored 1,446 points and grabbed over 1,000 rebounds for the Lady Lions before being inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012, proving that Lions basketball can produce stars on and off the court.
The SE Louisiana Lions compete in the Southland and hold an all-time record of 577–740 (.438 winning percentage) across 45 recorded seasons dating back to 1980-81.
