Boise State Broncos basketball — program history
Boise State's basketball program began in 1933 and the Broncos now compete in the Mountain West Conference. While better known for football, Boise State has built a competitive basketball program with several NCAA Tournament appearances. The program has produced NBA players including Chandler Hutchison.
The name
The Broncos nickname was adopted in 1932, reflecting Idaho's cowboy culture and the wild horses (broncos) that roamed the region's open ranges.
Signature moment
Earning a 2015 NCAA Tournament at-large bid after sharing the Mountain West regular-season championship, capping one of the program's most exciting late-season runs.
While Boise State's football team is famous for the blue turf, the basketball team plays in ExtraMile Arena, which features a court with orange-and-blue accents matching the school's bold branding.
The Boise State Broncos compete in the MWC and hold an all-time record of 941–703 (.572 winning percentage) across 56 recorded seasons dating back to 1970-71.
