Utah State's basketball program dates to 1902 at the land-grant university in Logan, Utah. Like many agricultural schools, the 'Aggies' name reflects the university's farming roots. The Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, known simply as 'The Spectrum,' is considered one of the most hostile environments in college basketball thanks to the famed student section 'The HURD.' Utah State has been a mid-major powerhouse, particularly under Stew Morrill, who won 402 games and led the Aggies to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances during his tenure from 1998-2015.

The Utah State Aggies compete in the MWC and hold an all-time record of 1776–1183 (.600 winning percentage) across 118 recorded seasons dating back to 1903-04.
