Eastern Michigan's basketball program dates to 1899 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. The Eagles compete in the Mid-American Conference and have made several NCAA Tournament appearances. The program produced NBA players like George Gervin and Kennedy McIntosh.
The Eagles nickname was adopted in 1991, replacing the previous 'Hurons' name. The bald eagle was chosen as a symbol of American strength and freedom.
