Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, is known as the "Cradle of Coaches" and competes in the Mid-American Conference. The RedHawks have a long basketball tradition and have produced coaches and players who made significant impacts on the sport at higher levels.
The RedHawks name was adopted in 1997, replacing "Redskins" after the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma requested the change and the Board of Trustees voted to honor it. The red-tailed hawk is native to the Oxford, Ohio area and represents speed and vision.
Ron Harper's dominant career at Miami (OH) in the mid-1980s, averaging over 24 points per game as a senior before being drafted 8th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
