Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, transitioned to Division I in 2004 and competes in the Big South Conference. The Lancers made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2022, a milestone for the growing program.
The Lancers name evokes medieval knights and chivalry, fitting the university's historic Virginia roots and the stately Longwood Estate for which the school is named.
