Southeast Missouri State's basketball program dates to 1906, and the Cape Girardeau school competes in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Redhawks have been a consistent OVC program with occasional conference titles.
The Redhawks name was adopted in 2004, replacing "Indians," with teams debuting the new identity in early 2005. The red-tailed hawk, native to the Missouri Bootheel region, inspired the new identity.
Winning the 2000 OVC Tournament to earn an NCAA Tournament berth, one of the program's signature achievements.
Cape Girardeau, home of Southeast Missouri State, was the hometown of Rush Limbaugh and sits on the Mississippi River, giving the school a unique riverfront location.
The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks compete in the Ohio Valley and hold an all-time record of 437–603 (.420 winning percentage) across 35 recorded seasons dating back to 1991-92.
