UT Martin's basketball program dates to 1928, and the school competes in the Ohio Valley Conference from the small town of Martin in rural west Tennessee. The Skyhawks have been a competitive OVC program with occasional tournament appearances.
The Skyhawks name was adopted in 1995, replacing "Pacers," chosen to represent the freedom and power of a hawk soaring over the flat farmlands of west Tennessee.
