Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers basketball — program history

Mount St. Mary's University in Emmitsburg, Maryland, competes in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and has made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. The Mountaineers are one of the smaller Division I programs but have consistently competed for conference titles.

The name

The Mountaineers name reflects the university's location in the Catoctin Mountains of western Maryland, near the Appalachian Trail.

Signature moment

The 2008 NCAA Tournament Play-In Game victory over Coppin State, followed by a competitive first-round matchup with North Carolina, putting the Mount on the national stage.

Mount St. Mary's is the second-oldest Catholic university in the United States, founded in 1808, giving it a longer history than most of its athletic peers.

The Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers compete in the MAAC and hold an all-time record of 504–638 (.441 winning percentage) across 38 recorded seasons dating back to 1988-89.
