The Peacock was chosen by Rev. Gannon when the Jersey City school reopened in 1930, symbolizing resurrection and rebirth after its wartime closure and nodding to the area's Dutch colonial name, Pavonia — 'Land of the Peacock.'
The 2022 NCAA Tournament run as a 15-seed, upsetting Kentucky, Murray State, and Purdue to reach the Elite Eight — one of the greatest Cinderella stories in tournament history.
