George Washington's basketball program dates to 1906 in Washington, D.C. The Revolutionaries (formerly Colonials) compete in the Atlantic 10 and have made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. The program has been a competitive force in D.C.-area basketball.
The Revolutionaries nickname was adopted in 2023, replacing 'Colonials,' to better reflect George Washington's role in the American Revolution and align with the university's namesake.
The 1993 Sweet Sixteen run under coach Mike Jarvis, the deepest NCAA Tournament run in program history.
GW's Charles E. Smith Center is located in Foggy Bottom, just blocks from the White House, the State Department, and the Kennedy Center — making it the most politically connected basketball venue in the country.
The George Washington Revolutionaries compete in the A-10 and hold an all-time record of 1449–1262 (.534 winning percentage) across 109 recorded seasons dating back to 1912-13.
