Lindenwood Lions basketball — program history

Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri, began its transition to Division I in 2022-23 and competes in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Lions are one of the newest Division I programs and are building their basketball identity at the highest level.

The name

The Lions mascot symbolizes strength and courage, adopted to give the university a powerful athletic identity as it grew its sports programs.

Signature moment

The official start of Division I competition in 2022-23, marking the beginning of a new era for Lindenwood athletics after decades as an NAIA and Division II program.

Lindenwood was founded in 1827, making it one of the oldest universities west of the Mississippi River despite being one of the newest Division I athletic programs.
