Texas State's basketball program dates to 1920, and the San Marcos school competes in the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats have been a steady Sun Belt competitor and play in one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.
The Bobcats name was adopted in 1926, chosen after the bobcats native to the Texas Hill Country surrounding the San Marcos campus.
