Georgia Southern's basketball program began in 1926 in Statesboro, Georgia. The Eagles compete in the Sun Belt Conference and have won multiple conference championships. The program has made several NCAA Tournament appearances throughout its history.
The Eagles nickname was adopted to represent the powerful bald eagles native to Georgia's coastal plains, fitting for a university in southeastern Georgia.
Winning the 1992 Trans America Athletic Conference Tournament to earn an NCAA Tournament bid, one of the program's signature postseason achievements.
Georgia Southern's Hanner Fieldhouse was built in 1969 and is known for its unique design — the intimate, loud arena has made it one of the toughest road trips in the Sun Belt.
The Georgia Southern Eagles compete in the Sun Belt and hold an all-time record of 771–773 (.499 winning percentage) across 52 recorded seasons dating back to 1971-72.
